There’s something truly special about hearing words of encouragement in your own language. That’s exactly what happened at our library when Catherine took the time to read aloud from our Words of Affirmation flashcards in Ibibio.

Catherine picked up the first flashcard and spoke, her voice carried warmth and reassurance: ‘Ami mme kem’ which means I am enough reassuring herself of her inward capabilities and strengths.

One by one, Catherine went through the flashcards, each message reinforcing a sense of belonging, confidence, and self-worth.

‘Mme nie mboutidem ke idem mmi’ which means I believe in my self

By using Ibibio, the language of their roots, the affirmations became more than just phrases; they became a bridge to identity, culture, and self-empowerment.

A huge thank you to Catherine Assam for bringing these words to life! Your reading was more than an exercise—it was a gift, a moment of unity, and a celebration of the strength found in affirmation.
